Amazon Blinks!!!

Have to take a victory lap after The Nervous Breakdown published this piece of mine last week about Amazon treating Badge unfairly with ship times, and Amazon changed the ship time! Because of the piece!

Read the essay that shook the foundation of a publishing giant!

I Need One More Badge Amazon Review!!!

I'm trying to get this emarketing company called Bookbub to partner with Badge, but it's widely believed (meaning my friend Craig Machen told me) it's necessary for your book to have at least ten Amazon reviews before Bookbub will consider it.

Badge has nine reviews.

For those of you who have reviewed Badge at Amazon already, thanks so much. Getting to hear your thoughts has been one of the highlights of this whole experience for me.

Anyone who's read Badge but hasn't yet reviewed it at Amazon, would you mind dropping by and offering your two cents? It just takes a second, and you do not have to be Shakespeare to do it. Write what you liked and didn't about Badge, hit publish, and you're good to go.

And I'll be eternally grateful.

Amazon is Still the Devil

Every writer I know has stated their opinion of Amazon this past week. I've offered mine before, but here's a simpler take.

1) Amazon is by far the most innovative publisher/retailer in the world today.

If you're an author, you sell more books because of Amazon. If you're a reader, you spend less for books because of Amazon.

2) Amazon wants to kill your community bookstore.

If you're an author, you should be appalled. If you're a reader, independent bookstores are places where some are willing pay a few dollars more for books so they can have a center for literary culture in their neighborhood/city/region. Some areas are lucky enough still to have them.

That's the crux of it. Book Sales for Authors/Cheap Books for Readers/Innovation v. Death to Community Bookstores.

Solution:

If you don't love your community bookstore and don't care about literary culture, I suspect there's nothing I can say to affect where you buy your books. There is a great anti-corporate argument against buying from Amazon, but that's a much larger argument and won't be explored here today.

If you love your community bookstore, every penny you give Amazon is a penny spent to destroy your community bookstore, so plan on spending a few more bucks at your local indie so you can have a center for literary culture in your neighborhood/city/region.

Or dance with the devil.

All Badge Kickstarter Rewards Sent!!!

With the exception of one or two stragglers, all of the Kickstarter Rewards for Badge have been sent. This means, if you have a reward coming, it's on its way. If you have a reward coming and you don't get it in a week or so, do let me know and we'll rectify it.

This also means that the monster of Badge is out of the cage. It only took seven years. For those of you getting Badge as a reward, the best way to let me and the world know what you think of it is by reviewing it at your blog, at Amazon, at Goodreads, or anywhere else on the web. (Don't worry; I won't miss it.) Amazon and Goodreads both have pages already set up for Badge, and I'll soon have some kind of Badge Facebook page as well.  Perfect for linking!

That's it for now. Enjoy the rest of the holidays, and I'll have lots of Badge news for you beginning next week.
